iPad 5 Impressions. Leaked.

iPad 5 Impressions. Leaked.

All-New iPad 5 coming soon. Autumn. According to a report from insiders who has heard from the Taiwan supply chain, Apple’s trial production of the all-new 5th generation 9.7-inch iPad will start soon, with volume production beginning in July. In September the fruit company will reportedly ramp up the production to 3-5 million units.

Although rumors about the production of future Apple products isn’t very exciting, the report went on to state that “the display of the new iPad, which will hit market shelves as early as September, will still be a 2,048 x 1,536 Retina display, the same as the one used in the 4th-generation model, except that the new display is built on a glass substrate of 0.2mm, thinner than the 0.25mm one for the 4th-generation device, the sources said, adding the new table will has a narrow bezel.”

iPad 5 Release Date: US, Canada, Europe, Asia, World!

iPad 5 Release Date: US, Canada, Europe, Asia, World!

Volume production of a new-generation 9.7-inch iPad will begin in July-August with shipments in the third quarter estimated at five million units. Meanwhile, a second-generation iPad mini may see its volume production postponed from September to November, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The next-generation 9.7-inch iPad is expected to adopt a thin-film-type touch panel solution to reduce its weight by 20-30% and will adopt a slim bezel design to increase the display area. The new iPad's industrial design reportedly will also be modified, the sources said.

With the addition of the next-generation iPad, Apple's 9.7-inch iPad shipments are expected to total at around eight million units in the third quarter and will have a chance to rise further in the fourth due to seasonality, the sources noted.

As for the second-generation iPad mini, some market watchers believe the delay is because 9.7-inch iPad sales were seriously impacted by iPad mini in 2012, and so to avoid the situation from happening again, Apple has turned its product focus for 2013 to the new 9.7-inch iPad.

However, some market watchers believe the delay is due to the supply chain being unable to meet the mass-production schedule.

Market watchers originally estimated Apple's tablet shipments to reach 80-100 million units in 2013 with iPad mini accounting for 35% of the volume and 9.7-inch iPads 65%. However, with iPad mini's volume production delayed to the fourth quarter, total iPad shipments for 2013 may be lower.
